The Indonesian Ministry of Health and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Establish Collaboration to Overcome Cancer
The Indonesian Ministry of Health is collaborating with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center to address cancer problems in Indonesia. Marked by the signing of a work agreement or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which was held at the Dharmais Cancer Hospital on Friday (3/2).
Indonesian Minister of Health Budi G. Sadikin said cancer is a disease that causes many deaths in Indonesia. For women, breast cancer is the leading cause of death.
“The effort that must be done is proper screening. Cancers identified early through screening have a cure rate of around 90%. Meanwhile, if cancer is identified at a late stage, the death rate reaches 90%," said Minister of Health Budi at Dharmais Cancer Hospital, Friday (3/2).
Minister of Health Budi asked Dharmais Hospital to ensure that the quality of cancer services in Indonesia was improved. According to him, the quality improvement needs to be done because the increase in cancer cases in Indonesia is very fast and is the top three causes of death.
Dharmais Cancer Hospital as the Indonesian National Cancer Center (NCC) has collaborated with NCCs in various countries. Currently, Dharmais Cancer Hospital has become a national cancer network administrator for the development of cancer services, training and education of cancer experts in Indonesia.
